I am building 'Tele' like f-hole,semi-hollow body with highly figured Bubinga (I don't know where witch-doctor, the zootman does. This is highly figured combo waterfall-curly).
Anyway, I want to bevel edge of top starting about 1" from edge and bevel to edge-about 1/8" bevel at edge. To get it uniform, I', thinking router BUT, how does router work on highly figured woods. If I can't route, how is it done?
Thanks,

A router works fine on figured wood. Whenever I do a carved top electric guitar, I start with a piloted rabbet bit (binding bit) and cut a small rabbet as if I were binding the guitar. This ledge defines the edge of the carved face. Use a sharp bit,use the proper speed, and be careful of grain direction to avoid tearout.

Sounds to me like you want to use a raised panel bit to define the bevel .. I woudl do it in steps, taking very small bites to keep the bit form grabbing too much. That way, you could also use a climb cut whcih would really help out on any tear out. Sharp bit is a must as well obviously, and depending on the size, the ability to slow down the router, likely to about 12-14K RPM if its a 2-3 inch diameter bit.
